Authentication gate observatory
Region 02 / Authentication Clarity

Authentication should feel like a marked route, not a locked gate.

Indexera evaluates whether APIs document auth flows clearly enough for developers to integrate without guessing.

Reliability bridge with rerouting paths
Region 03 / Reliability Bridge

Weak error handling breaks the path to production.

Indexera traces the route from documentation to production deployment, identifying where error handling, retry logic, and incident response break down.

SDK workshop with glowing module cubes
Region 04 / SDK Workshop

SDK coverage is maintained infrastructure.

Indexera tracks official and community SDKs, update freshness, example quality, and package health for every indexed API.

Transparency lake observatory
Region 05 / Transparency Lake

Pricing transparency should be visible before the first API call.

Clear water means clear commercial terms. Indexera tracks what developers can see before signup — and what stays hidden until a sales conversation.

Methodology

Scores are earned from evidence, not bought.

Indexera applies a transparent, public methodology to every API assessment. Every grade is backed by observable signals and documented evidence.

Public rubric

Every API is evaluated against the same documented criteria. Documentation quality, OpenAPI completeness, auth clarity, error examples, SDK availability, pricing transparency, and reliability signals.

Observable signals

Scores are derived from what developers can see and verify: published docs, public status pages, changelog history, SDK repositories, and pricing pages.

Manual review

Early reports include manual verification by our team. As we scale, automated analysis handles initial assessment with spot checks for quality assurance.

Owner dispute process

API owners can dispute inaccuracies with evidence. Final assessments remain independent, but documented corrections are applied transparently.

Verified vs unverified

Verified reports have been confirmed against live API state. Unverified reports use last-known data and are clearly labeled.

No pay-to-play

Scores cannot be purchased or influenced. Indexera does not accept payment from API providers in exchange for better grades.
